About VSSC
VSSC had a small beginning at Thumba, a coastal village at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala on the southwest coast of India, in 1962. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) is the lead Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under the Department of Space (DOS), Government of India. The Centre is named in fond memory of Dr. Vikram A Sarabhai, the great visionary and the father of the Indian Space Programme. The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre is one of the main research and development establishments within ISRO. The vision of VSSC is to harness space technology for national development while pursuing space science research and planetary exploration.
