About SSC
In its 47th report (1967-68), Parliament’s Evaluation Committee recommended the establishment of a Commission for the Selection of Services to carry out audits to fill posts in lower categories. Within the framework of the Ministry of Personnel and Administrative Reform, the Indian Government established a commission on 4 November 1975 called the Subordinate Service Commission. The Commission had an affiliated office in the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) and consisted of a chairman and two members: the secretary and inspector of the examinations. His post was equivalent to the level of an additional secretary in the government.
On 26 September 1977, the Commission for Subordinate Services w renamed the Personnel Selection Commission. The tasks of the Personnel Selection Commission were redefined by the Indian Government under the Ministry of Personnel and Public Complaints on 21 May 1999. With the new Constitution, the functions of the SSC entered into force on 1 June 1999. Each year, the SSC conducts an SSC in combination with graduate exams to recruit non-gazette officers for various government roles.
