About RRB
Railway Recruitment Control Board is a government recruitment agency for Group C and Group D non-gazetted civil service and engineering posts in Indian Railways under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. It was set up in 1998 in the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), New Delhi. The vision of RRB is to Shortlisting and empanelling right quality of manpower for fulfilling Organizational Human Resource needs, through fair and transparent recruitment processes with candidate-friendly test(s) to have optimum productivity & professionalism in achieving the Organizational Goal of Indian Railways. The mission is to ensure timely planning, scheduling & publication of Centralized Employment Notifications (CENs) for various categories of posts and ensuring fair, transparent, simple & candidate-friendly recruitment process /Test(s) completed within the minimum period of recruitment cycle by the deployment of least amount of funds and personnel.In 1945 service commissions were established in Bombay, Calcutta, Madras and Lucknow. In 1948, the Indian Railways Enquiry Committee reviewed the work of these commissions. In 1949, due to financial constraints and the ban on recruitment imposed by the Indian Railways, the number of commissions was reduced to one based in Bombay. In 1953-54, as the economic conditions of the railways improved, four service commissions were set up in Bombay, Madras and Calcuttas.At present 21 Railway Recruitment Boards are functioning.
