About APVVP

The Government of Andhra Pradesh established Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad by a Legislative Act (Act 29/2006) in the year 1986. Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad is an autonomous organization funded by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to manage secondary-level hospitals. The main objective was to restructure the existing public health system, by separating the curative and preventive aspects so that greater emphasis could be given for intensive development of both these areas and also to strengthen linkages at appropriate levels. At present, there are 240 hospitals under the control of Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad in the State.

Functions of APVVP

The Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad is entrusted with the following functions:

  1. to maintain the assets of secondary level non-teaching hospitals, and maintenance of cleanliness therein
  2. to formulate and implement the schemes for the comprehensive development of the secondary level hospitals
  3. purchase, maintain, and allocate quality equipment to various secondary level hospitals under its control
  4. to procure, stock, and distribute drugs, diet, linen, and other consumables among the dispensaries, and hospitals;
  5. to provide for the construction of houses to the employees of the dispensaries and hospitals, and the maintenance thereof by mobilizing resources from financing institutions;
  6. to run public utility services and any other activity of commercial nature within the hospital premises;
  7. to run canteens, and cafeteria within the hospital premises;
  8. to provide the facilities of specialists and super-specialists at various hospitals;
  9. to receive donations, funds, and the like from the general public and institutions both from within and outside India;
  10. to receive grants or contributions which may be made by the Government on such conditions as they may impose;
