Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

Candidates must be Indian nationals holding either a Graduate or Post Graduate degree in Law from recognized universities, colleges, or institutions of national and international repute. Alternatively, candidates can be Chartered Accountants awarded by recognized accounting bodies.

Minimum Marks Required

Applicants should have secured at least 50% marks in their respective academic programs:

  • 3-Year LLB or 5-Year integrated LLB programs
  • Post Graduation degree programs
  • Chartered Accountancy qualification

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications and skills:

  • Chartered Accountants who have completed their articleship in taxation
  • Law graduates or postgraduates engaged in taxation research or projects
  • Excellent skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Remuneration and Support

Stages of Selection

The recruitment will be conducted through a two-stage process:

Stage 1 – Screening

General Instructions & Job Description

Contract Duration and Extension

The initial engagement is for one year and may be extended for another year upon satisfactory performance.

Job Responsibilities

Young Professionals will work closely with Commissioners of Income Tax (Domain Representations) and Senior Departmental Representatives in the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. Their duties include:

  • Studying paper books of listed tax cases
  • Analyzing judgments relied upon by the assessee
  • Identifying judgments favorable to the department
  • Distinguishing facts and preparing briefing notes
  • Drafting written submissions for tax litigation cases
  • Conducting specific research or studies as briefed by supervisors

Orientation and Supervision

The CIT(DR) will provide a brief orientation regarding role expectations at the start of the engagement.

Leave & Termination Policies

  • Leave: 8 days annually, accruing monthly on a pro-rata basis. Unused leave cannot be carried forward.
  • Termination: The department can terminate the engagement at any time without prior notice. Staff can resign with a one-month notice.
  • Absence: Unexplained absence for 8 consecutive days results in automatic termination.

Confidentiality & Publication Restrictions

Young Professionals are bound by the Indian Official Secrets Act, 1923. They must maintain strict confidentiality and cannot publish articles, participate in social media broadcasts, or represent entities in legal matters without prior approval from the department.

Other Important Conditions

  • No compensation for accidents or health issues during service.
  • The engagement does not confer any right to regular employment or benefits.
